Dealing with Pride: Every Man’s Battle

Pride is a sneaky enemy. It tells us we’re strong enough, wise enough, and capable enough on our own. It whispers, “You don’t need help. You don’t need correction. You’ve got this.” But the truth? Pride is the root of destruction. “Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall” (Proverbs 16:18).
As men, pride can keep us locked in chains. It keeps us from confessing sin, from asking for help, and from admitting weakness. Pride isolates. Pride blinds. Pride hardens the heart.
But God calls us to a different path—the path of humility. Jesus Himself, the King of kings, humbled Himself, becoming obedient even to death on a cross (Philippians 2:8). If the Son of God modeled humility, then brother, so must we.

Here are three ways to deal with pride as a man of faith:
1. Confess Quickly
When you blow it, own it. Don’t justify it, don’t spin it—confess it. Confession breaks pride’s grip and opens the door to healing.
2. Seek Accountability
Surround yourself with brothers who will speak truth to you. Iron sharpens iron (Proverbs 27:17), but only if you let other men close enough to challenge you.
3. Serve Others
Pride wants to be first. Humility chooses to serve. Jesus washed the feet of His disciples—do you think you’re above serving? Find ways to put others first and pride will begin to lose its hold.
Final Charge:Pride will rob you of God’s best. Humility will position you for strength, freedom, and blessing. Don’t let pride destroy what God wants to build in you. Drop the armor of self-sufficiency and put on the humility of Christ. That’s how men of God rise strong.
